I have known Kim since high school and it was great catching up with her and meeting her boyfriend while I was in Newfoundland. We have been in touch on line through all of these years, but rarely seen each other. We headed out to a couple of locations throughout St. John’s and had a great time!

It was great seeing you again, and super nice to meet you Jeremy!

I haven’t seen Lorrie since we were little tiny girls and she moved away from my home town of Catalina, Newfoundland. Through the magical reconnection powers of Facebook, we found each other! Lorrie now lives on the other side of the world, but luckily was back in Newfoundland for vacation the same time I was this year. We met up at Topsail Beach for some family portraits!

Both of Lorrie and Rob’s children are unbelievably beautiful, with eyes so blue it’s almost startling. I love this image of Katie just relaxing and playing in the flowers while she thought I was busy shooting her brother.

Milestone of the summer Lorrie told me is that Alex started walking while they were in Newfoundland. I am so glad that I got the opportunity to document this important time in his life for him!

Here is the photo of Stella (Katie’s world travelling sidekick) that I promised in exchange for a few more photos of the beautiful girl herself. Lorrie, make sure you make good on your promise and show her Stella’s portrait on the computer! I think she’s a very photogenic member of your family as well!

Now, this is my absolute favourite image from their session. I love the serene look on Lorrie’s face as she rubs his back, his little fingers in his mouth while he relaxes and the totally calm expression on his face. Actually, now that I look at it again, it’s for sure one of my favourites from this entire year.

Thank-you, all of you for coming out for family photos this year. It was truly a pleasure to meet your family Lorrie and I am so glad we got to see each other after all of these years. Your children are perfect and you have a lovely family. I hope we get to see each other again in the future!

You know those baby books, the ones that tell you what to name your baby and what the name means? Like Amy means ‘loved’? Well I haven’t looked at one of those since I was a teeanger wishing my name was Caroline (I always knew Bridget would be Bridget, so I missed out on that fun bit of pregnancy!). But I bet you if you look up Vanessa it means ‘Joy’. For real, this girl is one of the best people in the world to be around. She is always so fun to be around. When I met her back in University, working at Reitman’s, I was instantly drawn to her. Always upbeat, happy and energetic, she actually has the power to put you in a great mood!

It was awesome finally having the opportunity to hang out with her and meet Mike (and to squeeze her baby belly!). I can’t wait to meet the new addition on my next trip back to the rock (Hopefully sooner, rather than later!)

If you’ve read my blog before, you have met ‘Baby Ryan’. He is my cousin Phil’s little boy, and Bridget adores him. In fact, she was pretty furious when she realized I was at the park, with ‘Baby Ryan’ without her! I am so glad we got the chance to spend some time together this visit!

Andrea is super duper awesome. I am so glad Phil married such a wonderful woman! It’s always nice when awesome people join your family!

Thanks for meeting up with me folks! I am looking forward to seeing you again on the weekend!

I saw the Gullage’s in Edmonton last fall when they drove from Calgary to see me for family photos. At the time, we were going for crisp fall portraits, but it was the hottest fall day ever on record. We were all lovely though, sweating in our fall clothes!

Little Maddox has grown so much since I saw him last year, and I was glad they made the decision to meet me in the Historic Town of Trinity, in Newfoundland for this years family photos. If you ever get a chance to visit Newfoundland, Trinity is a must see! I have very fond memories of my university days, spending summers and weekends in and around this tiny town!

When Krista booked their photos this year because she is expecting and not at the point yet where we would normally do maternity photos. Having been pregnant before, I know how blah you feel mid pregnancy, so I was stunned when I saw them waiting outside the Dock Marina Restaurant in Trinity. She looks fantastic! I wish I looked that good when I was pregnant!

It was great to see you again Krista, Trevor and Maddox! I hope you enjoy your family photo sneak peak! Have a safe trip back!

It was great catching up with Mark and Krista this past weekend for some family photos. The last time I saw them, they were a family of 3 and now they have the most adorable little leopard printed baby girl! Their little boy wasn’t quite as interested in having his photos taken as I was in taking them, so it was fun chasing him around the side of Quidi Vidi lake. I have to say though, all the hard work was totally worth it. He is a super handsome little guy, and he has such an expressive face that a ‘sit and smile’ photo wouldn’t have done him justice at all!

Wouldn’t you agree that Krista looks amazing for someone who has such a tiny mite of a baby! I couldn’t believe it when I saw her!

I look forward to seeing you all again soon!

I`ve known Kelly for about a hundred years. It feels that long tonight because the Newfoundland damp has my whole body aching like an 109 year old. It`s not good, but I am loving every minute of being here. Anyway, lamenting aside, I met Kelly so long ago that I don`t remember meeting her- she`s just always been my friend.

I do remember meeting her new man Manuel though- At Rhea and Aaron`s wedding at Terra Nova Park Lodge last summer. The funny thing about meeting him is that he was funny, right from the get go. I figured I had my work cut out for me this evening though, considering it took about 30 takes at the wedding to get a candid photo in which he didn’t look like I was trying to steal his soul with my camera. Things went well though. He is still funny and I think he practiced his smile. It didn`t hurt thought that his beautiful daughters were with them this time for family photos at Cape Spear. I can honestly say, that after all of the times I have threatened to make kids do jumping jacks to keep warm during photos, these girls actually wanted to! They got mighty close to the prescribed 115- no small feat for 7 and 8 year olds!

Never a dull moment with these two! Kelly has the most caustic sense of humor I have ever heard in my life. Apparently she keeps Manuel amused too!

It was awesome hanging out with you guys  at Cape Spear! I am glad the rain held off so we could head out there. I hope you enjoy your sneak peak! I can`t wait to hang out with you again before I go back! To view the rest of your images check out your proofs gallery here: http://islandmistphotography.smugmug.com/Family/Kelly/18443915_S4Sr2f

Just in case you’ve missed my super excited Newfoundland visit countdown, I am less than two hands full of fingers away from setting my two feet on the rock!

The best part about going home for a visit is spending time with my friends and family, but I love the ocean, the rocks and the history so much that I can’t put my camera down while I am there. I am happy to have a working vacation. Because I love what I do, if find it so funny that I have had countless messages wondering if ‘I would mind’ doing a photoshoot while I am there, and the short awnser is always, “Don’t be silly! I would love to!”

So, if you are one of the silly crown who thinks you would be ‘pestering’ to book a session while I am there for the entire month of August, to you I say, don’t you be so foolish! I still have select days for family, maternity, boudoir and engagement photos set aside, AND I am available  for some, AND I would love to see you for photos!

The other thing I should mention is that I have so many awesome weddings in Newfoundland in 2012 (my sister’s  included- look out world, i’m told I have to wear heals!). What does that mean to you? Well lots if you are planning on tying the knot in 2012. I am available for consultations for weddings in June, July and August in Newfoundland. Yes ladies (and gents!), I am at your service! So let’s grab a coffee (or something fun!) and sit down and have a chat about your big plans. If anyone is third in line for excitement after the bride and groom, you might think it’s your mother, but no, no, no, it’s me (just don’t ask me to wear heels!)

Go on, what are you waiting for? Shoot me an email so we can get the ball rolling on something amazing for you!

Dale and Tammy were married in Carmanville, Newfoundland on September 4th. Happily, I was in Newfoundland around that time and extending my stay a day or two allowed me to cover their wedding! Origninally planned as an outdoor wedding, Mother Nature seemed to have other plans. The threat of a hurricane forced the ceremony inside, but it turned out to be a beautiful day! These photos were taken directly across the street from the home where Tammy and Dale are doing remarkable restorations. Imagine having a cup of tea every morning and looking out at a view like that. Editing these photos made me homesick. Here is a sneak peak for these love birds! Thank you for includinig me in your wedding day! I really enjoyed dancing the night away with you!

A couple of weeks back, I showed you my brother-in-law Mitch, his girlfriend Alice, and their soon to be baby Cohen. Well it seems my Christmas list is expanding exponentially this  year! Here is my step-brother Jason and his beautiful wife Leslie and their soon to be baby! I was lucky enough to be in Newfoundland at just the right time to capture both new nephews before they make their grand entrance into the world!

I can’t wait to meet you when you arrive Baby Barrett! I am sure you are going to be every bit as lovely as your momma ;)
