Couple's portraits of a married Newfoundland coupleCouples portraits in Clarenville, Newfoundland
My Dad has been reading books by Deepak Chopra since I arrived here, and has several times, referenced him when things weren`t going exactly my way. But I have to agree, the universe was trying to tell me something when it came to Alison and Brad`s photos. Alison wanted them taken last year, but Brad wasn`t in the province. So we scheduled their session for this visit, as soon as I knew that both Brad and I would be in Newfoundland at the same time. Things would go perfectly, I just knew it! I was really looking forward to their photos, because she is awesome! However, after Alison had gone to have her hair done, they both got dressed, I packed my gear, and they picked me up (not my usual mode of transport but I have known her for years), and we drove to where we were taking the photos, the wind arrived and was enough to blow our head off. We drove to a more sheltered location, and before we got there, it started to rain.

Not to worry we figured, we could do it again tomorrow.

So, we did it all again. Hair, clothes, camera gear, beautiful couple, photographer, camera gear all loaded into the car, and off we went. It was overcast but managable. I like overcast, it’s like a bit soft box in the sky. This would be great. So you can imagine my excitement when, as we arrived, so did the rain.

Alison owns the Grapevine, a floral and decor store in Clarenville, and she had a number of weddings to prepare for over the weekend, which left Friday and Saturday impossible, and I was out of town on Sunday. This didn’t look good. Monday, I was still out of town, and it was foggy in St. John’s, but when my Dad told me the weather was nice in Clarenville, I just knew I had to get back there.

So guess what? Perserverance payed off and what the universe was tryiing to tell me all along was apparent. We weren’t meant to do the photos on an overcast day, because there was a huge wide open blue sky day waiting for me around the corner. I just had to have the patience to wait for it to arrive!

I love these photos of Alison and Brad. I sat up late last night torn over which ones to blog. I love the part of my job that is making such hard decisions. I hope they love them just as much as I do, and they have the casual photos of themselves that Alison was looking to hang on her walls!

Brotherly love in family portraits
I am going to start this post with this image, because it cracks me up. In fact, I think I laughed out loud as it was happening during the Frye’s family portrait session, in Clarenville, but I laughed louder when the image popped up on my screen tonight. I had to share it. There is no chance this little brother is going to grow up to be a wimp!

I had a great time taking these photos. It was a bright sunny day in Clarenville, with nothing but blue skies. It was a bit on the bright side for pictures, and the tide wasn’t where I needed it to be, but we got some awesome images out of it, despite all of our obstacles. These are a just a quick sneak peak for Michelle and her family!

I am really glad that Michelle is one of my Facebook fans, and booked photos while I am home in Newfoundland on vacation! It was great hanging out with them!

Baby photos in Spruce Grove, Alberta

Yesterday I had the privlege of shooting a super cute baby in Spruce Grove! They are actually from my hometown, Clarenville, Newfoundland but are here in Alberta for a few days. I was so glad I had the opportunity to hang out with them for a bit. I haven’t seen his mom since High School, and she still looks great. I am editing these today, and when I got to this one my heart melted. I am not ready to show any more yet, but I love this this one and needed to show the world. So Amanda, here is a teaser of what is to come!

Seeing someone from home made even more excited to go back to Newfoundland in August! Now I really can’t wait!

P.S-If you live in a town that I haven’t already announced dates for, and think your family and friends would be excited to have a marathon take place near them, email me and let me know! We can certainly try to work something out! I want to see as much of the island as possible this year!

Every year, Bridget and I take a trip back to Newfoundland to visit Nanny, Poppy, Grand Dad, Aunt Gie, Aunt Lisa and CeCe (also known as Adrian). We always go in October. And it always rains for the duration of our trip. Of our 27 days home last year, there were 26 days of rain. The day we arrived was really nice. Apparently. I didn’t get in until almost mid night.

However, this year, I am being smart! We are going to go on our vacation in August. However, since it is the most popular month for photos, I will be working while I am vacationing. Why yes, you heard right. I love my job so much that I am going to take a working vacation.

Soooo…..

I am presently booking sessions all across the Island during the month of August. That’s right, St. John’s, Clarenville, Bonavista Pennisula, Port Blandford, Bay Roberts, Grandfalls and Corner Brook. I might even take a vacation day or two and make my way to Gros Morne since I haven’t seen it since I was a little girl.

What does all of this mean for you, my faithful blog readers? Well if you are Edmonton, you know now you must book your family, maternity and engagement sessions for April, May, June, July, September and October. If you are Newfoundland, you need to contact me at amydonovan@shaw.ca today to find out what day I will be in your town, and book your space. I will be on the Island for a full month, but I have limited bookings in each town, so don’t wait!

I can’t wait to see you!
