It’s that time again! I have itchy feet and I want to pack my suitcase to come home! This year I will be booking sessions in the Clarenville and St. John’s areas from June 20 – August 6, 2012.

I am looking forward to a summer filled with wedding fun, but I can’t wait to see all of my regular family portrait clients (yes, it’s been a year since then!) and meet some new awesome people.

To book your session, email islandmistphotography@gmail.com or give me a call at (780) 271-7082.

I can’t wait to see you all!

Christina and Dennis got engaged back at Christmas after 9 years of being together! Congratulations to them! It was awesome hanging out with them this weekend and shooting some fun engagement portraits for them! Even though it was freezing, we had a really great time! The two of them were troopers, so it was awesome!

Oh, and Dennis did a REALLY good job picking out her ring! He tells me she deserves it! She must be pretty special!

Congratulations again on your engagement!

This summer I joked that Lee is a professional groomsmen. He has stood at a wedding of mine pretty much every year, and is always a very cooperative Bridal Partier. (For those of you wondering, I did in fact just make up that word. I like it.) Anyway, so I was thrilled when he contacted me to take photos of him with his girlfriend Jackie, and their dog Chummy. Lee and I grew up in the same little tiny town and we know lots of the same people, so it was nice to catch up with him  and get to know  Jackie. I reaffirmed for her that where Lee and I are from, it’s OK to just visit someone and just walk right it. It’s just that great of a place.
So, it was at this exact point in the conversation that I almost said, “So, when are you two going to tie the knot?”

But, I got distracted by something else and forgot all about it. It’s probably a good thing…..
Because if I had asked, “So when are you two going to tie the knot….?”

It might have ruined Lee’s suprise!!!Yes ladies and gentleman, that there is a real life, true blue, down on one knee proposal that neither Jackie or myself saw coming. I am sooo glad I didn’t ruin the surprise. And that I was ready! Way to make 2 girls have a heart attack all at one time Lee!!!

Oh, and what about Chummy? How handsome is he!? Thanks for picking me to be the one to capture that awesome moment for you! I look forward to seeing you both again soon!

I have known Kim since high school and it was great catching up with her and meeting her boyfriend while I was in Newfoundland. We have been in touch on line through all of these years, but rarely seen each other. We headed out to a couple of locations throughout St. John’s and had a great time!

It was great seeing you again, and super nice to meet you Jeremy!

Engagement sessions are one of my favourite sessions to shoot. It gives me a chance to get to know the couples prior to the their wedding, and then a chance to get comfortable in front of the lens. Of course, sometimes, it’s even more important. Melissa and Chris booked their wedding with me having only viewed my website, and because they live in Newfoundland where they are having their wedding, and I am based in Alberta, we hadn’t met face to face before. Email and phone conversations meant I knew I was going to love them both immediately, but they are positively great. It turns out that Chris and I went to the same church way back in the day, but unfortunately I don’t remember him! I will definitely know him next time I see him in a church (waiting for his blushing bride!).

Their little boy came out to the session with them, and he had an awesome time adventuring in the woods by Topsail Beach. After originally meeting for their session at Middle Cove Beach two weeks before, we had to reschedule. The wind was unbearable and everyone’s hair was horizontal. The rain, drizzle and fog doesn’t faze me often, but that day was ridiculous. Melissa and Chris were game to go ahead with their photos, but I knew they deserved better. I am so glad we waited to do them on a better day. The sun was splitting the rocks on the day we met up! It was fantastic!

Congratulations to the three of you! I am looking forward to seeing you all again at your wedding! I am so happy you chose me to be your wedding photographer, because your wedding is going to be beautiful, just like you guys! It’s going to be a fantastic day!

I haven’t seen Lorrie since we were little tiny girls and she moved away from my home town of Catalina, Newfoundland. Through the magical reconnection powers of Facebook, we found each other! Lorrie now lives on the other side of the world, but luckily was back in Newfoundland for vacation the same time I was this year. We met up at Topsail Beach for some family portraits!

Both of Lorrie and Rob’s children are unbelievably beautiful, with eyes so blue it’s almost startling. I love this image of Katie just relaxing and playing in the flowers while she thought I was busy shooting her brother.

Milestone of the summer Lorrie told me is that Alex started walking while they were in Newfoundland. I am so glad that I got the opportunity to document this important time in his life for him!

Here is the photo of Stella (Katie’s world travelling sidekick) that I promised in exchange for a few more photos of the beautiful girl herself. Lorrie, make sure you make good on your promise and show her Stella’s portrait on the computer! I think she’s a very photogenic member of your family as well!

Now, this is my absolute favourite image from their session. I love the serene look on Lorrie’s face as she rubs his back, his little fingers in his mouth while he relaxes and the totally calm expression on his face. Actually, now that I look at it again, it’s for sure one of my favourites from this entire year.

Thank-you, all of you for coming out for family photos this year. It was truly a pleasure to meet your family Lorrie and I am so glad we got to see each other after all of these years. Your children are perfect and you have a lovely family. I hope we get to see each other again in the future!

You know those baby books, the ones that tell you what to name your baby and what the name means? Like Amy means ‘loved’? Well I haven’t looked at one of those since I was a teeanger wishing my name was Caroline (I always knew Bridget would be Bridget, so I missed out on that fun bit of pregnancy!). But I bet you if you look up Vanessa it means ‘Joy’. For real, this girl is one of the best people in the world to be around. She is always so fun to be around. When I met her back in University, working at Reitman’s, I was instantly drawn to her. Always upbeat, happy and energetic, she actually has the power to put you in a great mood!

It was awesome finally having the opportunity to hang out with her and meet Mike (and to squeeze her baby belly!). I can’t wait to meet the new addition on my next trip back to the rock (Hopefully sooner, rather than later!)

If you’ve read my blog before, you have met ‘Baby Ryan’. He is my cousin Phil’s little boy, and Bridget adores him. In fact, she was pretty furious when she realized I was at the park, with ‘Baby Ryan’ without her! I am so glad we got the chance to spend some time together this visit!

Andrea is super duper awesome. I am so glad Phil married such a wonderful woman! It’s always nice when awesome people join your family!

Thanks for meeting up with me folks! I am looking forward to seeing you again on the weekend!

I haven’t seen Julia in years, and it was awesome to meet up with her and meet her boyfriend Michael this past week. Their dog Buckley is adorable- and so well behaved!
