Fort McMurray Boudoir Photography | June 1-3, 2012
May 17, 2012As I sat in the back seat of Sabrina and Ryan’s truck in Fort McMurray last weekend, I was so disappointed that I wasn’t going to get a chance to photograph their family. Only 20 minutes before their session, it had been beautiful, as I drove around aimlessly waiting for the time to come to meet them before I left town. Now, it was absolutely pouring. I had climbed in there because it was raining so hard that we couldn’t roll down the windows to figure out a plan. The weather hadn’t been cooperative for most of the weekend, and I had to do a lot of rescheduling, but this was dreadful. Thankfully, all of my clients are super laid back and it all worked out, but now I was out of time. Not only was I scheduled to leave town, but the next time I got back to Fort McMurray, it was likely they wouldn’t live there any more.
We looked out of the windows and it looked to be clear toward Abasand, so we decided to head there. It wasn’t. Then it rained as we drove past thickwood. I don’t mean drizzle, I mean wipers at full speed rain. The kind that makes you wonder if you should get out and get gas, or just chance it. It was that bad. Then Sabrina thought of a covered gazebo in Timberlea, and as I followed their truck, I will admit that I was discouraged. Such a beautiful little girl didn’t need to be out in this weather getting full of mud, just to have her photos taken. Maybe I should just go home.
As we drove through a residential neighbourhood, I thought, ‘Oh, we must be headed toward their house. This isn’t going to happen.’ But when we arrived at the gazebo, it was dry – bone dry, and the sun was blazing. It was absolutely gorgeous, as though the rest of Fort McMurray wasn’t experiencing a rainstorm.
I am so glad we were persistent because I love these photos.
The entire weekend I spent in Fort McMurray was fantastic, and every session was amazing for me. I loved everyone that I met, and everyone I photographed. I had such a great time in fact that I plan to be there again June 1-3 (I hope the weatherman is kinder to me this trip!)

The very best part of being a photographer for me is that people put their trust in me to capture their family during various stages of their lives. It’s an incredibly fun job and I love every minute of what I do, but sometimes, I love it even more than normal. Sandy and Pam had me photograph them with Serenity last November when I was in Fort McMurray, and last week they had me do it again. It’s amazing to see all of the changes in her in such a short time. She is an absolutely beautiful little girl, with such a calm, placid personality. When she looks at you, it’s like she has met you before, and knows what you are about. She is beautiful.
What makes photographing this family so special for me is not just that they come dressed nicely for photos. They come ready to be photographed. They get how important this is. Pam brought a tea set for their photos so that we could capture some fun whimsical images of Serenity, in colors to match her new bedroom. They get down on her level and play with her, and they laugh and carry on together. I have said before that I am not a family photographer, I am a relationship photographer. Pam and Sandy always let me in, and let me capture they way they relate to each other and to Serenity, and that makes my job the best and most special one ever.

This photo is exactly everything I mean about capturing relationships. There is no way to pose this, or to make it happen. They were having fun, and they were happy in this moment, and I was the lucky person who was there, with a camera and got to capture this for them forever.
Thank you Sandy and Pam for choosing me again. I adore your family and I hope you love your images as much as I enjoyed capturing them for you.

Amy

“Such a happy little boy,” is how Karla described Kolton to me when we were booking his portraits before my recent trip to Fort McMurray. As soon as I met him, I knew just what she meant. He is first class adorable and so happy. Kolton has the most expressive little face, and every single photo of him has a different expression. My favourite might be the last photo in this sneak peak – I don’t know what I did to deserve it, but this look made me laugh out loud (really, out loud, not just that LOL text version you say when you don’t know how else to respond). He meant business!

Thank you Karla and Andrew for letting me hang out with your family for a little while! He is a real treasure! Enjoy every minute with him!

Danielle and I grew up in the same home town in Newfoundland, and I haven’t seen her in about 13 years. I was really excited when she messaged me to photograph her new baby Grace in Fort McMurray this past weekend while I was there. Grace is an absolute sweetheart! I really enjoyed spending an hour with them on the trails in Thickwood!

Thank you guys for picking me to capture this exciting time in your lives! Enjoy every minute with her- she will be a preschooler before you know it (don’t I know it!).

Edmonton Boudoir Photographers | Melanie
May 7, 2012This images made me squeal with excitement while I was shooting them, and editing them, and while I show Melanie how amazing she looked and we selected her favorites for her album. And now I am squealing with excitement again, because I am over the moon with excitement that I can share these with you. I shoot quite a few boudoir sessions, and understandably not everyone is willing to let me know their photos. I totally get it. But every now and then, I get to share and it makes me incredibly happy!

Melanie brought so many amazing outfits, shoes and boots to her session. This girl came to play, and she gave me lots of options, and she rocked each and every one of them. I love that even with all of the awesome outfits, the most amazing thing she wore was a look of sheer confidence. She is radiant and beautiful. She is funny and smart and friendly, and fun to be around. I loved every minute of her session and I am so glad that she loves her images, and that she is letting you love them too.
