Wedding Photographers in Edmonton

Heather and Michael got married in Mexico (while the rest of us were loving the cold winter weather). When the returned from their honeymoon, their joined their friends and family for a wedding reception filled with Mexican style food, dancing and merriment! Here is a sneak peak from their reception- while I finish up the rest of their photos!

Congratulations to the two of you!

Ashton and Ashley were married at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Spruce Grove, in a beautiful ceremony. The church had the most amazing natural light, and I would love to shoot there again! Prior to the ceremony, I found Ashton sitting in the foyer, a bag of nerves. My high school drama teacher always told me that if you weren’t nervous before something important, than you didn’t care. Well folks, Ashton cared, A LOT. He was the most adorable groom I have ever seen because he was so nervous and I expected he would faint any minute. Even Pastor Mick made a joke about it before he started the ceremony. It was too cute.

I have had a chance to get to know the couple through their engagement photos, and then I met Ashley’s family during family portraits. I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to work with couples and families who are accustomed to standing in front of the camera (and photographer) that will be following them around on their big day! I was so glad when I got to work with them again!

I am super close to finishing their wedding and thought I would share a sneak peak to get them through the waiting! I hope you enjoy!

These adorable ring shots are courtesy of my second shooter for the day, Trisha , of Sillybird Photography. She was busy laying on the ground while I was off with the couple. She mentioned the mushroom as we passed along but I didn’t really take notice of it. But look at the texture- I have never seen anything like it. Considering the theme of the day was “Alice in Wonderland”, I think mushrooms were totally fitting for a ring shot!

Some of my clients make funny requests, and up until now, I have never done the peeing shot. But when photos were over and we were headed back to the cars, the boys had one request. I had to share this one, because the attire just made it so funny to me!

Thank you for inviting me to share in your special day Ashley and Ashton. It was a pleasure getting to know your family and friends! I look forward to seeing you all again soon!

Meet the Gledhill’s! Keltie and and Geoff were married and had their beautiful reception at the Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton last month. This animal loving (that’s an understatement) couple had a beautiful wedding surrounded by family and friends. After their ceremony we headed to Emily Murphy Park for some fun photos and then to the Urban Diner for a bite to eat before heading off to the reception! It was a great day, and I wish them all the best in their life together! Oh, and I heard through a speech at the reception that they now have a pot bellied pig who wasn’t around during their consultation. I am dying to meet the new addition! I am nearly done your images, but I thought I had made you wait long enough! Without further adieu, enjoy your sneak peak of your day!

Every single time I am asked to be someone’s wedding photographer, it makes me insanely happy. I am one of the few lucky people on this earth who found a job they love early in life, and gets to spring out of bed every morning eager to edit, email, and photograph. It’s important to me to establish a relationship with all of my brides (and grooms). If you are going to have someone following you around with a camera for the entirety of the most important day of your life, it seems to me, that enjoying the person is not a bad idea at all. Before most weddings we have numerous coffee dates, we talk through every detail of the wedding and we have a chance to bond. However, with Alisha and Jonathan, things were much different. A mutual friend put us in touch about her wedding. I was actually in Newfoundland at the time, and Alisha was at home in Fort McMurray. We chatted a little through email messages, and she took a leap of faith and booked me- having never met me in real life. I call that faith, and I am incredibly glad she had it.

I enjoy every wedding I shoot. It’s why I do what I do. If photographing weddings ever because something I don’t love to do, I won’t do it any more. It’s simply too important a day to mess around with not being excited about. So, when I rolled into Fort McMurray less than 24 hours before I was supposed to meet the ladies at Spoiled Rotten Hair Salon, I was a little nervous to meet Alisha! We met for lunch with the aforementioned mutual friend, and I like to think we hit it off well! We quickly talked through the details of the day, and I got a feel for this beautiful lady who kept telling me, ‘I am simple, I just like things simple’.  Well Alisha my dolly, if simple is as beautiful and as radiant as you were on your wedding day, this world could do well with a whole lot more of it.

Jonathan and Alisha have a beautiful little girl. She looks like a perfect mix of the two of them, and she was one of three beautiful flower girls at her Mommy and Daddy’s wedding.

I am not a shoe fanatic. I prefer comfort to fashion every day except New Year’s Eve. However, these Steve Madden shoes were to die for! I could never stand up in them, but they were gorgeous! My good friend and fellow photographer Chrystal Stringer of Chrystal Stringer Photography was available to come to shoot this wedding with me. Our styles couldn’t be more different, and I am looking forward to seeing her take on the day. She is a total shoe fanatic (she ones encouraged me to try heels, gasp!), so I am sure she got a good one of these as well!

Now… for some silly!

I might have posted this Blog post days ago, except for a small detail. I couldn’t narrow down my favourite images. At All. The couples photos are always my favourite to shoot, and I am so thankful that when she did her timeline, Alisha left me loads of time for couples portraits. Chrystal and I were stoked to have so much time shoot these photos. Another amazing factor was that because they were driving in their own vehicle that day, the bridal party got to go relax when they were finished group shots, while we worked with the Bride and Groom alone. It made it a whole lot more comfortable for the couple I think, not to have a limo full of onlookers hooting and hollaring (as fun as that is!) while they posed for some intimate portraits.

The bride and her father shot is always the heart breaker for me, and in this case, it was no exception. However, just before I left, Alisha’s mom asked me if I could please shoot her dancing with her Grandfather. Holy smokes. If that isn’t pure love and pride on that Poppy’s face, I have no idea what is.

Jonathan and Alisha, thank-you, thank-you, thank-you, for asking me be part of your special day! You are both amazing, your families and friends are incredibly warm and friendly, and I truly enjoyed every minute of photographing your wedding. I hope you enjoy these images as much as I enjoyed creating them for you. Of course, these are just a preview and there will be more to come, but I just needed to share how amazing your day was, so I hope you enjoyed the highlights!

I was thrilled to be Alisha and Jonathan Brown’s wedding photographer in Fort McMurray last weekend. I have only been to Fort Mac a handful of times, and each time I go there, I get to meet a whole bunch of new families for family photos. It was nice at their wedding because I already knew lots of people because Jonathan and I are from the same area in Newfoundland.

I posted a quick sneak peak for them to see yesterday on Facebook, but the colors never look quite the way I intend them on there, so here is another sneak peak. I am working on a full blog post for them as we speak, but I love this photo and couldn’t wait to share it! Those sun rays belong to the actual sun, it’s not some fancy Photoshop thing!

I had an amazing time at your wedding at the Sawridge, and can’t wait to share the rest of your images with you! Look for a full blog post by the end of the weekend!

I have known Kelly and Cameron for quite a while now, and it was after I shot their first photo session (on a frosty afternoon in the dead of winter) that Kelly professed her need me to photograph her wedding. Shortly after that- Cam proposed. Yes, in that order. I love Kelly because she is one of the most downright genuine people I know. She immediately draws you in, and you can’t help but love spending time with her. It was my ultimate pleasure to photograph their wedding.

You should know that this wedding was more than 2 years in the planning. I can’t even believe how quickly the two years flew by. I spent the days leading up to the wedding sketching how I wanted to incorporate the Mustang convertible they had rented for the occasion, the St. Albert Farmers Market (just outside Pose hair salon, where she was getting coiffed) and their outside wedding ceremony on the balcony of the Edmonton Golf and Country club (directly looking over the river valley with an amazing view of downtown) into their photos.

And then July 9 finally arrived and I see this…..

Seriously- it’s a good thing that things inside Pose were cheery and lively, because the outside was having none of it! I have always had great luck with weddings and weather, but that wedding was meant to have rain it would seem- buckets, and buckets of rain.

We got ready to go to the wedding back at Kelly and Cameron’s new house in St. Albert and they have an amazing closet. Yes. Closet. There’s enough room to live in there if a disaster happened. It’s the size of a full bedroom. So that was the perfect place to hang her dress. Here she is, admiring it after we had it hung for photos. What a stunning bride and she’s only wearing her ‘Bride to Be’ shirt! Just wait until you see her in her dress!   Future brides, take note- Dresses that need to be laced make for plenty of photo opportunities, however this is because it takes plenty of time. When the brides dress laces, and the bridesmaids dresses lace, make sure you leave plenty of time to get ready! The girls made it do the church (errrr golf course) on time, but it could easily have gone array!

These are my favorite wedding shoes ever. They are Barbie by Town Shoes. I had a hard time visualizing them as Kelly excitedly told me about them at Second Cup, but the minute I saw them I was smitten. Totally her!

And while I was smitten with shoes, Kelly was smitten with Cam, who called and admitted he was nervous. Adorable!  Is this not the most adorable walk down the aisle you have ever seen?

The rain poured out of the heavens all day, but then finally there was a break in the waterworks. We all rushed to St. Albert’s Red Willow Park so that we could shoot family formals and bridal party shots. We lucked out long enough to snap the family photos (despite gale force winds) and a few shots of the newly weds before the clouds rolled in again. The sky turned as black as night and drenched the pour bridal party who made an early departure back to reception. The poor girls were absolutely soaked, but they all remained composed and beautiful, even if their hair was dripping for a little bit!  Seriously, what a stunning bride.  An impromtu dip during the first dance never disapoints!  And the ever important Father Daughter dance!

Kelly and Cam, I wish you all the very best together. I am so touched that you invited me into your lives and allowed me to capture one of the most special and intimate days of your lives. It was a pleasure getting to know both of your families and spending the day with you. Congratulations!

Just in case you’ve missed my super excited Newfoundland visit countdown, I am less than two hands full of fingers away from setting my two feet on the rock!

The best part about going home for a visit is spending time with my friends and family, but I love the ocean, the rocks and the history so much that I can’t put my camera down while I am there. I am happy to have a working vacation. Because I love what I do, if find it so funny that I have had countless messages wondering if ‘I would mind’ doing a photoshoot while I am there, and the short awnser is always, “Don’t be silly! I would love to!”

So, if you are one of the silly crown who thinks you would be ‘pestering’ to book a session while I am there for the entire month of August, to you I say, don’t you be so foolish! I still have select days for family, maternity, boudoir and engagement photos set aside, AND I am available  for some, AND I would love to see you for photos!

The other thing I should mention is that I have so many awesome weddings in Newfoundland in 2012 (my sister’s  included- look out world, i’m told I have to wear heals!). What does that mean to you? Well lots if you are planning on tying the knot in 2012. I am available for consultations for weddings in June, July and August in Newfoundland. Yes ladies (and gents!), I am at your service! So let’s grab a coffee (or something fun!) and sit down and have a chat about your big plans. If anyone is third in line for excitement after the bride and groom, you might think it’s your mother, but no, no, no, it’s me (just don’t ask me to wear heels!)

Go on, what are you waiting for? Shoot me an email so we can get the ball rolling on something amazing for you!

Oh, and just because blog posts are more fun with a photo, please enjoy Kelly and Cameron’s intimate moment (before we got drenced with rain!).  A full blog post will be along shortly, but this image is one of my favs this year and I just need to show you, right now!

McGrath Mansion Wedding, Edmonton, Alberta

I have been driving past the McGrath Mansion on Ada Boulevard on my way home for the last 5 years, longingly staring out the grounds and just waiting for my chance to shoot there. So you betcha I was stoked when Trish and Adam told me their ceremony location! It’s an absolutely beautiful Edmonton wedding ceremony location, and it’s a Edmonton wedding photographer’s dream. Open shade, plenty of open area’s for photos, some traditional looking back drops with some elements of fun, I loved it there!

I think it’s because I am so close to my own dad that I always get a little choked up when the bride hugs her Dad as he ‘gives her away’. I have been known to shed a cheesy tear or two during the Father Daughter dance, later in the evening as well. I happened to really like Trish’s parents (a lot to do with the fact that he forgave the foible with the hanger on the mantle) so I love that I caught this moment. There is no posing that look of love ladies and gentleman, that’s a real moment right there!

Um? Above and below… I think they were both happy to be there :)

I loved this unique element of Trish and Adam’s ceremony. Because I couldn’t make it to the rehearsal, I was given a heads up that this was going to take place, buy Julie, their wedding planner. All of the members of the wedding party gathered around the couple, and took turns passing the ring around to say a short prayer. I have never seen it done before, and I think it was so special!

The reception was held at the Sawmill Banquet & Catering Centre and let me tell you- it was delishous. I like chicken as much as the next gal, but the steak was perfectly cooked, and well, a loaded baked potato- yes please!

You know you are doing a great toast to the bride when this happens…. (Thanks Adam’s Dad!)

Thank you both again so much for letting me be a part of the biggest day in your lives. I absolutely want to keep in touch (though I can’t say we will ever go for a stroll in the McKinnon Ravine again!)
