It was great catching up with Melanee this past weekend when I took a little photography roadtrip to Fort McMurray. I hadn’t seen her since high school, so I was thrilled to go and visit her at her beautiful home, and take photos of her two cats. Well, we all know I couldn’t just take photos of the cats and leave her out, so here they all are!

If you live in Fort McMurray and are interested in having family photos taken this fall, I am planning a second trip there for September. Please email me at islandmistphotography (at) gmail.com for detals, or give me a call at (780) 271-7082

Have a fantastic day!

Edmonton High School Senior Graduation Portrait

Everytime I go to my mother’s, there’s a campaign against awkward photos that I wage. It’s against that silly posed, stiff portrait of myself, with short red hair, in a teal grad gown. It’s hideous. All it says about me, is that on that day, I had awful, short, short, short red hair, and I showed up to put on the teal gown. What it doesn’t tell you is that I was fun, and funny, and though never terribly fashionable, I was my high school president, a terrible (if determined) clarinet player, not much better at drama (not very determined), a hospital volunteer and good at photography.

Nope, the teal gown says nothing about that.

So I am thrilled when I get to take pictures like these! Corinne, it was great to meet you. I had fun taking your photos and wish you all the best in your future endeavors!

If you haven’t met them before on my blog, meet Candace and Jonny. Two of the nicest people in Edmonton. Jonny’s niceness is totally undestandable- he grew up in Halifax. Us downeasters are awesome. Candace beats the band for niceness though, and after meeting her parents last weekend at their Edmonton wedding, I totally understand why. I always feel comfortable with my wedding families, but they were incredibly welcoming and that makes my job very easy to capture the best moments, just because it feels like I have been invited in, and I am not just observing!

The other man in Candace’s life is Larry. I am afraid of horses (and I hope no one noticed) after an incident at Circle Square Ranch, involving a horse, a wasp nest, and me. I didn’t like to mention it before, but Larry was a champ and didn’t do anything to perpetuate my irrational fears! I think I say it after every blog post, but the father daughter dance is one of my favorite wedding moments. They are always filled with such emotion. I LOVE this shot of Candace and her Dad. Moment’s like these are why I love what I do.
