I love being a photographer, and I love having the ability to work out of my home, where I can make sure that the kids are taken care of the way I would like them to be, the house is run the way I like, and (somedays) I can work in my PJ’s. However, there is a major drawback to leaving a company who made sure that those deserving employees recieved their share of pats on their back. I just don’t have arms long enough to pat myself on the back when I think I have done a good job. Working at home is sometimes a little lonely and can be mundane. As any other mom who works from home, toddlers don’t always make the best conversation and not having an IT department down the hall can certainly leave a girl a little stressed, and sometimes, a little lonely.
But sometimes, wonderful things happen. Like on Wednesday, when my doorbell rang and I opened the door to find a mom from the baseball team that Jamie coaches and I manage standing on my step with two dozen roses. Yes, a dozen white, and a dozen pink. They have been doing my heart good ever since, just because she thought enough of the work I put in for the team to bring me a suprise, just because. That was a pat on the back that I certainly didn’t expect, thank you very much Kim – you definately made my day.

As if recieving these beautiful flowers weren’t enough for this week, I had another little suprise that I wasn’t expecting. Who doesn’t dread opening the mail box when it contains nothing but bills and flyers. However, today I got the prettiest envelope with a wax seal. Yes-an actual wax seal!
One of my brides was thoughtful enough to send me an invitation to her wedding, all gussied up with wax seals and a handwritten message on the envelope! Thank you Rhea, seeing your beautiful handwritting on an envelope hiding amoungst a pile of bills this morning really made my day!

It really is the little things that makes the mundane extraordinary. I will definately be looking for ways to pay it forward! I would love to hear what someone has done to brighten your day, or even better, what you have done to brighten someone elses!
Much love,
