Ever since I can remember I got giddy about my birthday! Positively giddy. I have been counting down for weeks now. Yes, a full grown adult, counting down the days to her birthday- I am sure that is unimaginable for most!

However, I suspect all of the counting down is coming to a quick halt. This will be the very last year of my twenties. So tomorrow will be my very first ever 29th birthday. No, that wasn’t a typo.

Anyway, to kick off all of the excitement about my birthday tomorrow, I am giving you all something! A tremendous discount! Want to guess what it could be?

You guessed it!

29% off any portrait session booked before midnight tomorrow (May 28th). You can book your fall photos, graduation photos, maternity photos, newborn photos, engagement photos, any portrait session you can think of, for anytime this year. Whether you are booking a session in Alberta or a session in Newfoundland (August only), you get to take advantage of this offer. All you have to do is email me at islandmistphotography@gmail.com to book your session before 11:59pm on May 28th.

See, now I have even more to be excited about! All of the awesome people who will be celebrating my birthday throughout the year by enjoying a crazy discount!

I can’t wait to see you all!

Much love,
Amy

Your wedding day is one of the most exciting days of your entire life. But it comes with a lot of pressure. Getting from place to place on time, spending time with all of the family and friends who came to see you marry the love of your life, keeping your dress pristine.

The dress you bought for your wedding is likely to be the most expensive garment you will ever own. Traditionally, you would take it off, bring it to the cleaners, have it packed up, and store it forever. Right. Exactly what I like to do with my favorite things. Why not wear it one more time- and have some amazing photos taken, when time isn’t a factor, and when getting a bit of dust on the hem won’t ruin your day!?

Today, Yani met me and my fabulous new assistant Lindsey for some Trash the Dress fun. Contrary to the name, no dresses were actually ruined in the making of these photos! It can be cleaned and returned to her closet! And she now has some super hot photos!

I know you agree with me, she is ridiculously pretty. Ridiculous.

The picture below is my favorite photo so far in 2010. I love it. LOVE IT.

To show off your own wedding dress (or prom dress!) again contact Amy to book a Trash the Dress session with Island in the Mist Photography!

Last night was a monthly meet-up of the Selfless Wives Club (if you scroll down a few posts, you’ll see all of the fabulous ladies). Trina, the hostess with the mostest last night is super creative and pulled out all of the stops for her ‘Sex in the City’ themed party.

Just check out the scrumptious cupcakes she made-

I have to admit that I am not the craftiest person in the world- in fact, most adventures with glue guns end badly. But just check out these little presents Trina had made for everyone. She is a Stampin’ Up rep, which I suspect qualifies her as a crafty person, but these were unreal!

Thanks for great night ladies, and for being a great hostess Trina! I look forward to seeing you all again soon!

Much love,
Amy

I love when things exceed my expectations, and this storyboard that I picked up from the lab today did just that. I had it printed on metallic paper instead of lustre, and boy does it make a huge difference. The colors look alive because of the way the light hits it, and the black and white totally takes on a new look. I am totally in love with this storyboard and I was sad to see it go to it’s owner. I think I am going to order me a sample of it right now! These little beauties are custom designed so no matter what color scheme your nursery is, or the style of your living room, I can make you one that will wow you. And you betcha,’ it will be printed on the fun metallic paper, just like this one!

I love being a photographer, and I love having the ability to work out of my home, where I can make sure that the kids are taken care of the way I would like them to be, the house is run the way I like, and (somedays) I can work in my PJ’s. However, there is a major drawback to leaving a company who made sure that those deserving employees recieved their share of pats on their back. I just don’t have arms long enough to pat myself on the back when I think I have done a good job. Working at home is sometimes a little lonely and can be mundane. As any other mom who works from home, toddlers don’t always make the best conversation and not having an IT department down the hall can certainly leave a girl a little stressed, and sometimes, a little lonely.

But sometimes, wonderful things happen. Like on Wednesday, when my doorbell rang and I opened the door to find a mom from the baseball team that Jamie coaches and I manage standing on my step with two dozen roses. Yes, a dozen white, and a dozen pink. They have been doing my heart good ever since, just because she thought enough of the work I put in for the team to bring me a suprise, just because. That was a pat on the back that I certainly didn’t expect, thank you very much Kim – you definately made my day.
As if recieving these beautiful flowers weren’t enough for this week, I had another little suprise that I wasn’t expecting. Who doesn’t dread opening the mail box when it contains nothing but bills and flyers. However, today I got the prettiest envelope with a wax seal. Yes-an actual wax seal!

One of my brides was thoughtful enough to send me an invitation to her wedding, all gussied up with wax seals and a handwritten message on the envelope! Thank you Rhea, seeing your beautiful handwritting on an envelope hiding amoungst a pile of bills this morning really made my day!

It really is the little things that makes the mundane extraordinary. I will definately be looking for ways to pay it forward! I would love to hear what someone has done to brighten your day, or even better, what you have done to brighten someone elses!

Much love,
Amy

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you Mom’s out there- especially mine!

There is nothing cuter in the whole world that a brand new baby. They are all warm, and sleepy, and they love to cuddle. Little Leo is no exception. I photographed him before he was born (in an awesome maternity photo shoot) and I was privledged to shoot him again, today, at just 5 days old.

To say that this child is sweet is under statement of the century. He remained as calm as he looks in the photos through the entire hour I was pestering him with the camera.

Leo’s mom wasn’t feeling up to photos today, but his Grandmother, who made the long trip from Toronto to welcome him into the world, was more than happy to pose for a photo with her newest grandbaby. I love this photo. Baby Leo is looking so intently at her, and she looks proud enough to burst. There really is no love like the love grandparents have for their grandchildren.

Thank you for inviting me into your home, to document this amazing in your lives. I look forward to watching Leo grow up!

xoxoxo,
Amy
