I can say without doubt that if it wasn’t for the fabulous lady you see pictured here, I might never be living my life, doing what I love. You see, in addition to being a Mother, Lawyer, Belly Dancer, and Dance studio owner, Lori is just simply a strong woman. She gave me a giant push towards making photography a career, and not just a hobby. She believed in me when I wasn’t sure there was anything to believe in. When I wasn’t sure where to start she insisted that I just start. And I did. And I am really thankful for her vote of confidence. So I was exstatic to hear her jingle jangling toward me down Duckworth Street in St. John’s last weekend. You see, Lori has also found what she loves to do. So we celebrated that in front of one of her favorite old buildings downtown, which just happens to be the old Court House. Perfectly fitting for a beautiful Lawyer, in a stunning costume and silver wings, who can balance a sword on her head, in my humble opinion.

It was amazing catching up with you Lori! I hope we get to see each other again soon!

My Dad has been reading books by Deepak Chopra since I arrived here, and has several times, referenced him when things weren`t going exactly my way. But I have to agree, the universe was trying to tell me something when it came to Alison and Brad`s photos. Alison wanted them taken last year, but Brad wasn`t in the province. So we scheduled their session for this visit, as soon as I knew that both Brad and I would be in Newfoundland at the same time. Things would go perfectly, I just knew it! I was really looking forward to their photos, because she is awesome! However, after Alison had gone to have her hair done, they both got dressed, I packed my gear, and they picked me up (not my usual mode of transport but I have known her for years), and we drove to where we were taking the photos, the wind arrived and was enough to blow our head off. We drove to a more sheltered location, and before we got there, it started to rain.
Not to worry we figured, we could do it again tomorrow.
So, we did it all again. Hair, clothes, camera gear, beautiful couple, photographer, camera gear all loaded into the car, and off we went. It was overcast but managable. I like overcast, it’s like a bit soft box in the sky. This would be great. So you can imagine my excitement when, as we arrived, so did the rain.
Alison owns the Grapevine, a floral and decor store in Clarenville, and she had a number of weddings to prepare for over the weekend, which left Friday and Saturday impossible, and I was out of town on Sunday. This didn’t look good. Monday, I was still out of town, and it was foggy in St. John’s, but when my Dad told me the weather was nice in Clarenville, I just knew I had to get back there.
So guess what? Perserverance payed off and what the universe was tryiing to tell me all along was apparent. We weren’t meant to do the photos on an overcast day, because there was a huge wide open blue sky day waiting for me around the corner. I just had to have the patience to wait for it to arrive!

I love these photos of Alison and Brad. I sat up late last night torn over which ones to blog. I love the part of my job that is making such hard decisions. I hope they love them just as much as I do, and they have the casual photos of themselves that Alison was looking to hang on her walls!

I am going to start this post with this image, because it cracks me up. In fact, I think I laughed out loud as it was happening during the Frye’s family portrait session, in Clarenville, but I laughed louder when the image popped up on my screen tonight. I had to share it. There is no chance this little brother is going to grow up to be a wimp!

I had a great time taking these photos. It was a bright sunny day in Clarenville, with nothing but blue skies. It was a bit on the bright side for pictures, and the tide wasn’t where I needed it to be, but we got some awesome images out of it, despite all of our obstacles. These are a just a quick sneak peak for Michelle and her family!

I am really glad that Michelle is one of my Facebook fans, and booked photos while I am home in Newfoundland on vacation! It was great hanging out with them!

Here is a sneak peak for the Pretty Family! I was so happy that I was in my hometown of Clarenville on one of my middle school teacher’s birthday. Not that I make a point of celebrating with past teachers, but because all of his kids had flown home to help him celebrate his 60th, and I was there to capture an hour or so of hanging out in the backyard together for them. Heather, came all the way from California. I suspect she winters a little better than Stephen, Gale and little Jane who came home from the Northwest Territories. Greg completed the family photo by flying in from Halifax. Because I think most of these visitors were a suprise, I suspect Mr. Pretty had a very special birthday (and not just because he got to hang out with me!)

It was great hanging out and catching up with you guys! I hope you enjoy your sneak peak! Jane is adorable!

I was so lucky to meet Amy Parsons, or ‘Other Amy’. When I was looking for a make-up artist for my recent ‘Sultry in the City Boudoir Photography Marathon,’ I didn’t know where to start looking. My sister Maggie sent me some great online videos about makeup artists, make by a girl in St. John’s and it just happened that she has an awesome name like me.
She did a phenominal job with the make-up on all of the ladies, and I was thrilled when she and Adam came to see me for Engagement Photos on Signal Hill in St. John’s!
